Ridgeway - Nuffield to Streatley (17th April 2006)

After the unplanned stop at Nuffield, we re-jigged our plan for the route, so the start point was now The Crown at Nuffield.

Set off and again find ourselves walking through a golf (Huntercombe).

Walk along a section of Grims Ditch, blimey there are a heck of a lot of ditches/dykes going across the English countryside, and someone had to dig them and by hand, no JCB's back then!

Walking along the side of the Thames, we could see a few people on the other bank walking / strolling on the Thames Path. Very flat meadows, especially compared to the Chiltern hills we've been going through previously, up and down. Can see occasional boat moving along the river, almost looks like they are moving through the grass fields. Past through North and South Stoke, nice looking villages, and under the railway bridge taking the main line over the Thames in a double bridge, i.e. two single arch bridge with gap between them

Leathern Bottel

Oh, if only Goring had a tea shop was our constant comment as we trudged towards the crossing point over the Thames at Goring/Streatley
- actually there is one, but it's further into Goring

Headed out of Streatley itself, towards the planned end of the walk at the car park outside Streatley, just off on the Wantage road, past another golf club (Goring and Stanley on google map). Had a welcome tea break at the roadside looking over the Thames valley

We decided we'd look at maybe trying to do the 5 miles or so from the Streatley to Bury Down car park, which would get us back on our planned route, so we went back to the start point to pick up the first car and headed over to Bury Down. Arrived there and I'd gone from all enthusiatic to feeling not very well, so we decided to call it a day with the 12 miles under the belt.
