Dartmoor Holiday (21st to 28th July 2006)

We went to Dartmoor, specially Brimptsmead at Dartmeet

Day 0 (well the evening we arrived)
- drive around trying to find somewhere still doing food, finally find the McDonalds in Tavistock still serving

Day 1
-amble around Ashburton Town for shopping and cup of tea
- evening meal at The Forest Inn
- clamber over and around Combestone Tor
- nice walk around the shores of Ventford Reservoir

Day 2
- go on a guided walk round Brimpt Farm, nearly up to Laughter Tor
- stop off at Pixieland (not very good)
- spend some time at Badger Holt
- evening amble up to Sharp Tor, great view

Day 3
- go to National Trust Letford Gorge, see Whitefalls and the Devils Cauldron
- into Tavistock to get food at Spar
- walk from Two Bridges up to Whistman Wood where we picnic
- stop off at Postbridge for an ice cream

Day 4
- go to Plymouth
- tea and coffee at Bella Pasta
- walk round town
- go to the Merchants House, including an impressive Pharmacy on the top floor
- then around the National Aquarium
- evening meal at The Forest Inn, the chicken and chips at £7.99 was a bit steep for just a chicken leg, I expected a full chicken half

Day 5
- a walk to finally find the East Dart waterfall, everyone was well hot by the end
- spend the afternoon in Bellever Forest, I read more of Peter Hamiltons book, the rest go wading in the East Dart

Day 6
- check out Bovey Tracey, the outdoor shop isn't as good as the one in Ashburton
- amble up to Haytor Rocks, also along the granite tramway (it's not a railway)
- back to Ashburton twice, in the evening to "Moorish" wine bar for a tapas meal

Day 7
- return home
- stop off at the Bell Inn near Stonehenge, nice cheese sandwich and the Hop Back beer is really good
